Wind Turbines

Wind power or wind energy is the energy extracted from wind using wind turbines to produce electrical power.

For thousands of years, people have used windmills to grind grain and pump water. Today, modern wind turbines convert energy from the wind which spins a set of blades connected to a generator, and the generator creates electricity as it turns. To produce a lot of electricity, many wind turbines can be placed together on wind farms which are often situated on hilltops, open plains, and shorelines.

Wind power, as an alternative to fossil fuels, is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, and produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation and uses little land.  The effects on the environment are generally less problematic than those from other power sources.

Environmental Benefits:

  • No greenhouse gases
  • Clean Alternative to fossil fuels
  • Renewable
  • Feed energy into the grid or provide electricity to isolated off grid locations

Additional Benefits:

  • Plentiful
  • Safe
  • Affordable
